Concept Note:
In India we are making more than 1600 films per year in more than 20 languages. India is the largest producer of films in the world. Annual turnover of Indian film industry is approximately 2.1 billion dollar. It is expected to be 3.7 billion dollar till 2020. 43% of Indian film industry business is captured by Bollywood or Hindi Cinema Industry. 07% business is done by international market and remaining 50% by regional cinemas of India.
With 600 television channels, 70000 newspapers and 1600 films per year; Indian entertainment industry is getting a new identity in the world. We have to take this entertainment industry seriously in the field of academia because our socio-political, economic and cultural life is getting one type of universal identity or image by this industry. Marginalised section of Indian society, diversity of Indian languages, literature, cast, custom, traditions, new middle cast society, image of Indian women and fusion of all this is largely reflected in our cinema. Contemporary Indian cinema is considered as an experimental cinema also. This cinema is doing the representation of Indian life through its advanced cinematographic tools and technology.
Unfortunately in India, cinema is still not considered as a serious subject for research, study and discussion in academia. We are organising this TWO DAY INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON CINEMA IN INDIA with a hope that great mind from all over the India and abroad will participate and share their ideas on the topic.
